Climate Data Inventory

  • Location server.

The location of the weather data and air pollution of Bogota are located on the IP server xxx.xxx.xxx.34 in the following extension.

/media/hpclab-data/environment/

In this folder is divided into the following subfolders:

data: contains the information obtained from the different sources of public consultation before the SDA and IDEAM.
scr: Codes used for the processing of information obtained from different public entities
SIG: It contains the geographic information obtained or processed to be implemented in a geographic information system (GIS) for the purpose of analyzing spatial trends or behaviors.

Review consultation information

  • Bogota Air Quality Monitoring Network - RMCAB.

Bogota has the Air Quality Monitoring Network - RMCAB acronyms in Spanish - that collect information on the atmospheric pollution of the different pollutants criteria and the meteorological behavior of the city. This network has been operating since 1997 and currently has 14 stations in the capital and one mobile station.

The information can be downloaded via the website of the Secretary of Environmental Department - SDA acronym in Spanish- (http://ambientebogota.gov.co/web/sda/red-de-calidad-del-aire) or the Observatory Environmental of Bogota (http://oab.ambientebogota.gov.co/), the official link is http://201.245.192.252:81/.

    • Inventory point sources and mobile sources Bogota (SDA),

Through an academic request to the SDA, we were provided with the inventory of mobile sources and point sources of Bogota, these being the main sources of air pollution of the city.

Inventory, classification and distribution of data

In the data folder "/media/hpclab-data/environment/data" has the information organized in the following subfolders:

-/media/hpclab-data/environment/data/RMCABogota

In this folder, the information downloaded from the RMCAB in Excel (.xlsx) format of atmospheric pollutants and meteorology is stored, information is currently available from 2008 to August 2016.

Each file is organized by columns where you have the date and time information in general, the following columns will store the information of the weather variables and atmospheric pollutants. It is important to clarify that the stations do not characterize the same variables and in turn the information was not stored was an ordered scheme, which implies a later processing for its respective analysis.

-/media/hpclab-data/environment/data/Inventory_fuentes

In this folder, the information obtained from the SDA is reported in excel (.xlsx) format in two files, one for the mobile source inventory and the other for point sources or fireplaces.

In general terms, each file is organized into columns that specify its geographical coordinates, company, operating time, type of fuel, among others.

Geographic information system

The digital cartographic information is obtained by means of two means:

1. IDECA

The data is downloading in "map of reference of Bogota" thanks to an entity Spatial Data Infrastructure for the Capital District -IDECA acronym in Spanish- where we obtain all the geospatial information of interest and Analysis of the capital. The location of this information was /media/hpclab-data/environment/gis/IDECA, obtained in the geodatabase format for ARCGIS where it can finally be imported into Shapefile (.shp) format. The download link is https://www.ideca.gov.co/es/servicios/mapa-de-referencia where the web page only requests contact information for its internal statistics.

2. Raw information processing on Google Earth, QGIS and Arcgis

This information has been built using the Google Earth software, QGIS and Arcgis, at the time the information of the RMCAB was processed where the georeferencing of the location of the stations and their characteristics is already in place. Distribution of atmospheric pollutants such as PM10 (particulate matter less than 10 microns).

This information is compiled by the geographical format of interest, and is stored in folders by formats, for example:

/media/hpclab-data/environment/gis/data_treatment/shp
/media/hpclab-data/environment/gis/data_treatment/kmz-kml
/media/hpclab-data/environment/gis/data_treatment/csv-txt
